John Palmer

Founder and Managing Principal

John is the founder and managing principal of Montgomery Partners, and Montgomery Capital Management, and is responsible for the strategic vision and overall direction of the firm. He specializes in the acquisition, renovation, and management of income producing real estate, and has owned and managed income property in California since 1979. He was the acquisitions manager of a real estate investment firm prior to forming his own company, Montgomery Partners, in 1983.

John’s specialty is acquiring under-managed properties in both urban and suburban markets, then renovating and repositioning them for eventual cash flow and/or long-term capital gain. He has also completed several historical renovations, which generate substantial tax savings in addition to the normal benefits of income property ownership.

Mr. Palmer has extensive experience in partnership organization and investor relations, in project development including construction and remodeling, risk management, landlord/tenant and rent control issues, as well as the acquisition and sale of investment grade property.

John Palmer attended Albany Academy in Albany, New York, and Columbia University in New York City, and is a member of the National Cum Laude Society.

Michael Piro

Chief Investment Officer and General Partner

Mike is the Chief Investment Officer and a General Partner. He has worked for Montgomery Partners since 2004. During this time, Michael has participated in over $1B worth of real estate transactions representing the acquisition of more than 7,500 apartment units by Montgomery Partners across Northern/Southern California, Nevada and Colorado.  He is responsible for brokerage-related acquisition and disposition activities, contract negotiations, project planning and implementation, risk management, and aspects of overall property and asset management oversight.

Prior to his arrival at Montgomery Partners, Michael worked as an Executive Recruiter for Schweichler, Price & Partners, one of the top 10 technology search firms in the United States. As a top producer, Michael worked with some of the most promising startups in the country backed by top-tier venture capitalists.

Michael earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Oregon. He was a recipient of the Charles H. Lundquist College of Business “Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.” He is a licensed real estate broker in the State of California and is the broker of record for MCM.

Spencer Palmer

Director of Acquisitions

Spencer joined Montgomery Partners in 2017 and is the Director of Acquisitions.  Spencer has over 6 years of experience in multifamily/commercial real estate investing, real estate finance, and commercial construction. Spencer is responsible for brokerage-related acquisition, underwriting, and debt placement.

Spencer previously worked at Institutional Property Advisors (IPA), the institutional division of Marcus & Millichap, in the Capital Markets department. While at IPA, Spencer was part of the #1 finance team working directly under Jake Roberts and Anita Paryani. While at IPA, Spencer was responsible for originating more than $65M in debt while participating in an additional $200M worth of loans. Prior to joining IPA, Spencer worked for the San Francisco based construction group, Stephenson Construction, as a carpenter. Since joining Montgomery Partners, Spencer has participated in over $400M worth of acquisitions and $200M worth of debt, representing the acquisition of over 1,500 apartment units.

Spencer attended Chapman University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business and Communications, with a minor in Kinesiology.  Spencer is currently a Masters candidate at Georgetown University in their Masters in Real Estate program with a focus on Finance and Development. He is a licensed real estate salesperson in the State of California.

Brady Stern

Chief Operating Officer

Brady is our Chief Operating Officer. He joined Montgomery Partners in 2021 and leads Asset Management efforts for the company. Brady has over 10 years of experience in investment real estate and is responsible for “running the business” of the portfolio of properties. This includes formulating and executing asset management strategies, oversight of capital projects, and running property operations.

Brady previously worked as a Director of Asset Management at UBS where he was responsible for the financial performance of a 17-property ($1.9B) Multifamily portfolio. Prior to that, Brady worked as a Director at Carmel Partners, with oversight of apartment properties in Southern California and the Pacific Northwest. He brings additional real estate experience from Shorenstein and The Bascom Group.

Brady holds an MBA from the University of Mississippi and a BS from Arizona State University. He is a past President of the Guardsmen, a philanthropic group serving at-risk youth in the SF Bay Area, and also serves on the Board of Governors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco. He is a licensed real estate salesperson in the State of California.

Braden “Brady” Badger

Vice President of Investor Relations

Brady is our Vice President of Investor Relations. He joined Montgomery Partners in 2022 with over 12 years of commercial real estate experience. He runs fundraising and investor relations for the company.

Brady previously served as Regional Director of Loan Originations at Morgan Stanley within the Wealth Management division, covering eight western states. While there, he provided commercial real estate lending options to the firm’s high-net-worth clients. Prior to that, Brady worked as a Private Banker at Wells Fargo Private Bank, focusing on clients with commercial real estate investments. Additionally, he served as Junior Vice President within U.S. Bank’s Commercial Real Estate division providing construction and bridge lending. He began his career at Marcus & Millichap Capital Corporation as an analyst within their structured debt group. To date, Brady has participated in loan originations in excess of $1.5 billion.

Brady attended the University of Southern California where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Policy, Management and Planning with an emphasis in Real Estate Development. He currently serves as president of his HOA, as well as board advisor to Archer – a property technology start-up based in San Francisco. Brady remains active in supporting his fraternity, Sigma Chi, through advising both current students and young alumni. He never misses an opportunity to use his fluent Spanish acquired while serving a mission in Santiago, Chile.
